A Monster Scam - Hotel Transylvania
My boys have this week off of school and wanted to see Hotel Transylvania, which is perfect since Halloween is just around the corner! For those that don't know about the monster scam of a movie, it is a computer-animated comedy with the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg....to name a few.
The film tells a story of Dracula, the owner and creator of Hotel Transylvania, where the world's monsters can hide from humans and the the human world. Mostly, he is protecting his daughter, Mavis, who is 118 years old, from the human civilization for his wife that he lost when Mavis was a younger vampire herself. Mavis longs to leave Hotel Transylvania and falls in "zing" with a human visitor that her father tries desperately to get to leave. In the end, Dracula realizes that he can not protect Mavis from humans or love and encourages Mavis to follow her "zing" feelings. The best part of Hotel Transylvania is the humor about monsters, which is really a scam because monsters are supposed to be scary! I liked the "scammish" nature of the movie because I don't do scary movies and this was great for all ages. The mummy, werewolf family (even when he eats all the sheep), the invisible man, gloopy monster and more were all fun! Thumbs up for the monster scam, Hotel Transylvania!
